What to Expect at Your First Checkup
When you arrive, our receptionist will meet you at the front with a brief medical questionnaire. From there, one of our assistants will escort you back to a private room to meet with our dentist. First, we’ll examine your teeth and then order any X-rays if necessary. If possible, let us know when your most recent X-rays were taken and we can request a records transfer from your previous dentist.
Your first checkup could be a thorough exam and consultation with our dentist or it might also include a scale and clean. It’s up to you and what you need. If you’re here because of specific concerns or we diagnose any infections, we’ll create a treatment plan and coordinate those procedures for a separate date.
How Often Should I See the Dentist?
Most people benefit from a scale and clean every six months. People with little buildup and excellent oral hygiene may be able to space their visits out to once a year, whereas someone with a history of gum disease may need to be seen every 3-4 months. Regardless of the frequency of your cleans, we’ll typically space your exams to every second visit.
Gentle Scale and Cleans
Professional cleans remove tartar buildup, plaque and surface stains from your teeth to promote better oral health. When there are fewer bacterial colonies in your mouth, your gum tissues and bone can better support your teeth. Throughout your clean, we’ll identify areas that may need more attention or a modified hygiene plan to help you keep your teeth healthy for years to come.
Routine Screenings Keep Teeth Healthier
Regularly screening your mouth for symptoms of gum disease, tooth decay and conditions like oral cancer means we can intercept them sooner. Earlier treatment is typically more effective, less invasive and affordable.
